Our Blog

Artisan weaving at Niko International is a demanding yet rewarding task that showcases the perseverance and dedication of our artisans. Through countless hours spent weaving intricate designs and crafting handmade textile products, these artisans not only earn income but also contribute to the local market and uplift their households and families.
In 2020, we faced a significant challenge in ensuring the well-being of our knitters. We understood that their inability to weave and produce dolls for several months would have a direct impact on the economic stability of their households.
Niko International is a socially responsible Peruvian company that specializes in exporting a wide range of handmade products, including dolls, sweaters, blankets, baby clothes, accessories, shawls, and textiles.
Textile crafts are an important part of the history of Peru, the oldest textiles were found in Huaca Prieta (2500 BC), an archaeological site with more than 4000 years where textiles made of cotton fiber spun and woven manually were found. Today the Peruvian textile industry is mainly industrialized, although we can still enjoy the traditional textile industry, whose knowledge has been transmitted from generation to generation, preserving techniques such as natural dyeing and the backstrap loom. Traditional textiles are usually worked inside homes and survive in weavers' associations. Peru is a country with a very strong textile history. The Paracas civilization excelled in fiber mat-making. The Incas were superb artisans. Presently most of the women in the Andean highlands and the Amazon learn knitting skills from their parents as their parents did from theirs.
